Jamie Campbell was born in London in 1982 and educated at Dulwich College, read music at Clare College, Cambridge, and completed his studies at the University for Music and the Arts, Vienna. His principal teachers were Howard Davis and Günter Pichler.

 

Described as ‘one of the finest young British violinists to have emerged in recent years' (Musical Opinion) Jamie has a busy career as a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral leader and principal. In addition to being a founder of the Solstice Quartet he is principal second violin in the Aurora Orchestra and plays regularly with the English Chamber Orchestra. His awards have included the Allcard Award from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and the Ian Fleming Scholarship from the Musicians Benevolent Fund. He has appeared as guest leader of the London Sinfonietta and lead the Dmitri Ensemble in their recording for Naxos of MacMillan's Seven Last Words. Jamie has premiered works by composers including Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Alexander Goehr, Nico Muhly and Giles Swayne. As a soloist he has appeared regularly with the pianist Simon Lane and his concerto performances have included the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto under Robin Ticciati. He plays a violin by Stradivari from 1727, on generous loan from the Royal Academy of Music.
