Rebecca King has been playing the ’cello since she was
eight. As an undergraduate in Cambridge she held a University Instrumental
Award and participated in chamber music within the university. After
graduating with a degree in Social Anthropology, she spent six months
employed as a peripatetic ’cello teacher for Surrey County Council, before
returning to the university for further studies. She
very much enjoys participating in musical activities during her leisure time. Rebecca completed a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge in 2004. Her thesis investigated the relationships between national, religious and ethnic identities and education in Nepal where she worked for two years. Following the completion of her PhD, Rebecca worked for six months in Bhutan with the World Food Programme on their school feeding programme and for a further one year in Liberia as a social anthropologist with Concern Worldwide. Her work in Liberia involved researching the social and cultural contexts of livelihoods and health interventions with a view to developing appropriate and effective programmes. Rebecca is currently working at the LSE Centre for Economic Performance, as a Community Research Manager with Effective Intervention. She is part of the Guinea Bissau team. |
